Create Your First Xamarin App
Welcome to Xamarin Cross Platform Mobile Development Technology!
Here you will learn how to create a new Xamarin cross-platform project. We will also learn how to build, run & check our screens. Follow the below steps to create your first Xamarin Project.
Once you successfully done with your Visual Studio installation, just open Visual Studio and click on “File” (in Menu) on the top left corner and go through “New” to click on “Project”.
Select “Cross-Platform” and select “Mobile App (Xamarin Forms)” and name the project as you like, then click “OK”.
Here you find different types of pages which are available in Xamarin Forms, for now, simply select “Blank” option. By default, all the available platforms will be checked and select “.Net Standard” library as Code Sharing Strategy (we will discuss this briefly in upcoming articles) and click “Ok”. The project will start to create. Please wait until project creation completed.
After the project is created, you can run project specific to your OS and device. For “Android”, you should have a smartphone, or an emulator installed on your PC. Visual Studio 2017 provides some built-in emulators for Android, so you don’t need to worry about them. So, in that case, select Android and an emulator on which you want to test the project. If you have an Android device connected with your PC, simply select that device. In the case of iOS, you should have an Apple device. Here we are selecting Android project and click on emulator play button. Now the project starts building the code and will be deployed to your emulator.
Now you will see the default landing page with Content Page, Label with Text “Welcome to Xamarin.Forms!”. Now you can add controls and create your own screens.
